A blissful cottage, a stroll from Edinburgh city centre…
A little piece of leafy tranquility by Holyrood Park – and a stone’s throw from the Royal Mile which leads up to Edinburgh Castle – Holyrood Cottage is a central, yet peaceful sanctuary for two. Enjoy a wood-burning stove, free wi-fi and a conservatory/garden. Free street parking too! NEW – guests can use the gym and swimming pool at a nearby hotel (10-15 mins walk) for the special rate of £5 per person.
Unassuming from the kerbside – and easy to miss unless you’re looking for it – this little stone-built cottage conceals a calming, and unexpected Nordic-inspired interior. Exposed white-washed brick, tongue and groove, and wooden shutters make for a traditional, yet eclectic vibe.
A comfortable leather sofa with chaise longue stretches out in front of the welcoming wood burning stove in the double height lounge area. A fully blackout-lined curtain separates the bedroom area from the lounge, ensuring the cottage is super cosy at night and spacious during the day. And the super-kingsize bed, with pocket sprung mattress, luxurious cotton bed linen and French throw makes for sweet dreams. The bed can be arranged as singles if preferred. And a travel cot and high chair can be provided for a baby.
The dine-in kitchen is fully equipped, with a washing machine, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment, oven, hob, microwave and toaster. The compact bathroom has a small bath with a power shower over, toilet and washbasin, with complimentary toiletries by Scottish Fine Soaps.
The back door opens into a small, bright timber conservatory with seating. Outside there is a small patio garden with a table and chairs. As you might expect, there is no smoking in the cottage or conservatory but there is a covered wooden garden seat.
The cottage is next door to the owners’ house and while there are no fences between the two properties, the cottage garden is sheltered and private.
Upon your arrival you’ll find the essentials in the fridge like milk, bread, butter, jam and a bottle of wine. The cupboards are stocked with cooking oil, teabags, instant and filter coffee and sugar. And also provided, because no one wants to have to buy them on holiday, are plenty of dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, laundry liquid and conditioner.
Many guests say that the cottage is perfectly situated for walking everywhere – Edinburgh is very compact. A short stroll (under 10 minutes) through the park takes you to Holyrood Palace, the Scottish Parliament and the foot of the Royal Mile leading up to the Castle, with Princes Street, shops and restaurants just a dander down the Mound away. However, there are plenty of buses that take you into town and the bus stops are 5 minutes from the cottage.
On your doorstep within Holyrood Park is Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh’s magnificent extinct volcano. Climb to the top or just halfway up for breathtaking views over the City and the sea, across the Firth of Forth to Fife and beyond.
