The perfect place to "Hideaway". Really beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. We've holidayed frequently in Yorkshire so I decided not to travel so much on this occasion. Had a fantastic time at an auction in Leyburn (tenants) – great place to eat too; open Gardens event in beautiful Middleham; market day in Hawes (don't miss the creamery or the lovely church in town) also enjoyed the spectacular drive from Castle Bolton to Reeth and brief excursions to Ripon )the cathedral is a must( & Harrogate )valley gardens( Dog walking around the cottage was a pleasure – to Swinton Park and Ellington our favourites. Thanks to John and Alison for their attention to detail. Loved "hideaway cottage"!

A lovely weeks stay in this great cottage. We certainly made the most of our time here and some highlights have been; Druids Temple, Wensleydale Railway, walk in Hawes which took in the Hardraw force waterfall, Jervaulx Abbey, Brymor Dairy for a lovely ice cream ) and even a frizzy for Beatrix( Scarr House reservoir, Wensleydale Creamery and it was a lovely surprise to be here when the Masham steam was on. We lined the streets and watched the parade of machines from the field to the market square. Harry's fish and chips on the market square are some of the best I have ever had. Oh how could I forget the wonderful National Trust property - Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey. We had a full day out here and dog friendly. I would highly recommend!

We have had a lovely time here-particularly enjoyed Hackfall woods,Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle. The weather has been awful - cold & rainy-but that has made this lovely cottage even more cosy. We have really appreciated the log fire! Visiting The Druids Temple in the heavy mist was very atmospheric. Hearty recommendation for the sausage shop in Masham )Beavers( & Mashams little bakery - fantastic value and a fantastic place to get a sandwich before a walk.

Our second time in this beautiful cottage, which should be recommendation enough! We returned this time without our special four-legged friend but despite our reservations we still greatly enjoyed the wonderful walks from the door. Walks late into the evening in any direction are virtually traffic free and a real treat. Wildlife abounds!.The cottage is in a great location providing easy access to lots of places of interest. We love Middleham, Leyburn and Hawes: returned with pleasure to all three - even going a little mad this time at Tennants Auctions! We also enjoyed excursions to Harrogate (loved the Valley Gardens) and York. Also attended a T20 cricket match at Headingley stadium Leeds. Yorkshire won! On this particular holiday we think that our trips to Aysgarth Falls and Fountains Abbey/Studley Royal water garden were the highlights. Both stunning. We have holidayed in Yorkshire dozens of times and will keep returning as long as we are able to do so. Yorkshire is superb for Holidays. Thanks again to John & Alison for their hospitality!

WOW - What an idyllic few days we have spent. We have certainly been able to " Hideaway" in this beautiful cottage. Millie & Bella (our black labs) have enjoyed walks to Druids Temple Masham and Fountains Abbey. We enjoyed the Black Sheep Brewery tour and sampled the local ales! Will be sad to head back to work next week but look forward to making a return in the not too distant future. We would definitely recommend Bruce Arms for a pie & pint night on Wednesdays! We have had a wonderful few days relaxing and essentially not doing too much! A perfect location to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Wakefield/Leeds. It is a beautiful cottage with plenty of care and attention taken to make sure it is as enjoyable trip as possible. The pubs in Masham were great with a welcoming environment in each. We have thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at Hideaway Cottage. It is so cosy, comfortable & full of character that it really is an idyllic retreat. The summerhouse is a real bonus! Although a brief stay, we enjoyed Masham market & browsing in the art galleries & shops. Also visited Middleham, Leyburn, and Jervaulx Abbey & enjoyed a walk up at Druids Temple. Food wise, we can recommend the Bivouac Cafe, )the ploughmans special is fantastic, chunks of warm ciabatta covered in baked local ham, chutney & all smothered in melted cheese-yummy! one portion easy feeds two people( The tearoom at Jervaulx Abbey is lovely with a great range of dishes & home baking, & takeaway fish & chips from Harry in Masham were delicious. Finally, had a tasty pub meal in the Bay Horse! All in all an excellent weekend - great accommodation, retail therapy & excellent food & drink! Thank you John & Alison - we hope to return for longer.

What a beautiful cottage, decorated superbly,we love all the hearts. We had dinner for 30 guests at the Kings Head with super food )belly pork-yum!( and a good gin selection! Also bought 2 fab bottles of Masons Gin at the wine shop in the village and got my nails done wonderfully at Jennifer Holmes at very short notice for only £5 by the lovely trainee lady. Vennells restaurant in Masham was lovely as was the Bruce Arms after a 3 mile walk. The market in Masham was lovely and we found some lovely items for our house. Despite lots of rain we enjoyed the cottage, bed very comfortable and we loved the Dales, as we had never been before. Not much walking due to weather but favorite drives were up to Tan Hill Inn; through the village and on to Middlesmoo, the view from the Crown is fantastic and down through Swaledale via Muker - everyone should see all the barns in Swaledale. Our favorite pub in Masham was the Bay Horse, Jonny Bagdad,s cake excellent; and Harry,s fish and chips also good. Favorite restaurant was La Treta spanish restaurant in Richmond market square - tapas were outstanding. Walk along the shawl, from Leyburn market place also a must. Bath robes were lovely!

Lovely week exploring the local area and very lucky with the weather. Cottage had all we needed. Bit disappointed with the Black Swan in the village not being dog friendly - especially as it doesn't say that on their website )Black Swan website( but advertises 22-40 minutes walks. However the following are really good; Kings Head, Bruce Arms & Bay Horse in Masham. Blue Lion in East Witton - fantastic food. Thorpe Perrow. Fountains & Studley. Agree about the duvet and a summer version would be very good.

Also went to the Bruce Arms which again was nice however we preferred the Bay Horse (both dog friendly). Hackfall Forest is just up the road, great for walking the dog. "Hideaway" is all it is written up to be! Lovely towels & bedding and a well equipped kitchen -and especially the "Oakwood" Aromatics liquid soap and lotion provided. Passing through West Tanfield, the sign was out by the old butchers shop and i purchased lots of lovely goodies to take back from the Dales. We came to walk and get fit again, and what beautiful scenery we found especially a walk from Carlton round Coverdale. Studley Royal and Fountains Abbey were magical, as was Middleham Castle the childhood home of Richard 3rd. Hackfall Wood was quite a disappointment for me as i don,t like narrow paths with big drop offs. Some of the views were obstructed by the growth of the trees too. "The White Bear" in Masham was excellent!! Thank you for all the lovely welcoming goodies-especially the flowers, and orchid in the bathroom! A lovely time spent here. PS... The "Curly pottery sheep" is wonderful!!

What a great cottage, Everything perfect! Especially the woodburner and the generous supply of logs.Great location to go out discovering. Have had some long walks - albeit very muddy! The walk up to the Bivouac worth it for the fantastic view, atmosphere and food. Don,t use the Black Swan pub printed walk, we wasted half an hour going the wrong way as the route has changed. Don,t go down to the disused rail track. Visited Fountains Abbey and did the boots and Garters trail, make sure you take a map with you. Gardens are outstanding! The Bay Horse pub in Masham is *****!! Had a great meal and snoop enjoyed laying by the fire. The hubby did the Black Sheep brewery tour and said it was worth it. Enjoy.
